The Guardian has reviewed the upcoming Brent Corrigan/gay porn murder movie King Cobra, and gives it a rave, saying James Franco gives his most unhinged performance since Spring Breakers – and that’s really saying something. He was BEYOND BRILLIANT in Spring Breakers.
Says The Guardian:
As an actor, James Franco has two modes: committed and can’t-be-bothered. His bold work in Spring Breakers, 127 Hours and Pineapple Express falls into the first category; Oz the Great and Powerful and Werner Herzog’s misbegotten Queen of the Desert meanwhile feature Franco at his most lifeless. Luckily for film-maker Justin Kelly, Franco is at his brazen best in the ripped-from-the-headlines, dark gay porn saga King Cobra.
Cutie-patootie Garrett Clayton is also something of a revelation:
Teen Beach Movie star Garrett Clayton makes a radical shift to very adult-orientated fare as the tanned and taut Sean Paul Lockhart, who at the outset of Kelly’s film is seen on grainy digital footage, auditioning for Cobra Video, the amateur gay porn company that would soon go on to make him famous. Introducing himself as Brent Corrigan, Lockhart proceeds to masturbate on camera. “They are going to love you,” says Stephen (Christian Slater), the man who runs the lucrative empire out of his suburban home.
At first Stephen appears harmless, visibly enamored with his young new talent. But as Lockhart’s star begins to rise, he grows more predatory, deluding himself that the pair are lovers. Lockhart is young (he’s 17 at the outset of Kelly’s film, lying to Stephen that he’s 18) but, according to the film, no fool. Quickly realizing his value, Lockhart immediately demands a higher fee, leading to an ugly fallout.
Seeing the development as an opportunity, Joe (Franco), an enterprising but cash-strapped porn producer, lassoes in his performer boyfriend Harlow (Keegan Allen) to get Lockhart on their roster by whatever means necessary.
Joe and Harlow are no less ambitious than Stephen and Lockhart. What holds their venture, the Viper Boys, back from being a Cobra-level success is Joe’s hot temper, which comes to boil whenever things don’t go his way, and his penchant for spending way beyond their means. Harlow is also portrayed as a bit of a dimwit. “Do you think in heaven you can eat as much as you want and not get full?” he asks Joe at one point.
Ethan Hawke impresses as an abusive father to a major-league rookie pitcher in an intriguing character study that’s admirably hard to pin down
Despite its subject matter, King Cobra isn’t a gay Boogie Nights, Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic about the inner workings of the porn industry. King Cobra is much more contained, solely focused on the intersection of these four characters over a short span of time. Where Kelly and his cast let loose are in the film’s wild sex scenes, which both serve the narrative and manage to titillate.
The acting is uniformly strong. Alicia Silverstone brings a lot of heart to her few scenes as Lockhart’s deceived mother. And while Clayton makes for a charismatic lead, it’s Franco who steals the picture, much as he did in Spring Breakers. As in Harmony Korine’s neon-lit thriller, the actor goes no holds barred.
Sounds fascinating. Read the whole review here.

Speaking to Yahoo News, Ted Cruz‘s wife Heidi was asked about the persistent internet rumor that her hubby is, in fact, the infamous Zodiac Killer. All she had to say was “No, he isn’t, don’t be ridiculous.” It was the perfect opportunity to debunk the gossip and move on. Instead, she cryptically said:
“Well, I’ve been married to him for 15 years, and I know pretty well who he is, so it doesn’t bother me at all. There’s a lot of garbage out there.”
Wait, whut? That’s certainly an… odd… thing to say. “I’ve been married to him for 15 years and I know who he is and it doesn’t bother me at all”????
I guess we have all the proof we need. (via Yahoo News)
Oh, and another damning piece of evidence surfaced in the comments section of Gawker:

So there you have it!

2016 – the annus horribilus – marches on, with news that another beloved icon is gravely ill. Flamboyant early rock pioneer Little Richard is reportedly in serious medical distress. Multiple media outlets are reporting that the “Tutti Frutti” singer is in critical condition at an unnamed hospital, and that family members are gathering at his bedside. Longtime friend Bootsy Collins just tweeted, “A friend, a legend & some say the true King of Rock & Roll. Lil-Richard needs our love & understanding right now….”
There has been no official word from his publicist or family members about his health. In 2013, he suffered a heart attack during a fundraising event for the Recording Academy and announced his retirement from music a few weeks afterwards. Before the announcement, he had to stop a concert when he told the audience that he could barely breathe and exited the stage.
More news as the story develops….
From RollingOut:
Little Richard, real name Richard Wayne Penniman, was born in Macon in 1932. From an early age, he had a love of music and performing which caused concern for his parents. He joined a Black traveling music show that led to him performing on the “Chitlin Circuit” throughout the Black South. He was well known for wearing thick “pancake” makeup and his outrageous stage presence that was combined with an equally wild lifestyle. In 2000, the movie Richard directed by Robert Townsend and starring actor Leon portrayed his incredible music career. Little Richard was part of the musical acts that changed what was known then as “race music” to the term “rock & roll” as Whites purchased his records and made him a recording star. The singer is now 83 and regarded as the father of “Rock & Roll” by such megastars as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones who have called him an inspiration behind their music.

Audrey Hepburn was a 24-year-old waif (born this day, May 4, in 1929) who made a good impression in Hollywood and on the stage but had yet to solidify her fame. She had only had one major film role—in 1953’s Roman Holiday—when photographer Mark Shaw spent a day with her. Director Billy Wilder, and others worried that she was neither a sex goddess or the girl next door.
Shaw produced this spread for Life magazine (the People of its day) including these lost outtakes seen here. In it you can see she was focused on her workaday life. She got up early for work, went to the studio, got ready to film Sabrina, practiced ballet and got ready for another day of work. The day was a good subject for a photo essay, Life noted,
“not because there is anything so remarkable about it but because whatever Audrey does, she looks pretty remarkable doing it.”
In the decades that followed the release of Sabrina, Hepburn has become one of the 20th century’s most iconic stars, just as Shaw predicted. At the beginning of the issue, he commented that she was a “monster” when it came to productivity and that the studio technicians who worked with her said that she would have a long and illustrious career. They told Shaw,
“We can tell when someone has got it.”
She had “it” for sure.

If A Mighty Wind is your favorite movie, if you can quote every line from This Is Spinal Tap, if you sometimes dress as Brüno in the privacy of your home – have we got a film festival for you! The On Vous Ment Mockumentary Film festival which takes place from May 27th-29th at Ciné Mourguet in Sainte-Foy Lès Lyon (near Lyon, France).
This one of a kind event is dedicated to mockumentary genre films (or: fictional films that follow the conventions of a documentary). This festival will be a place to reflect upon the enduring influence of the genre.
Campaigning for artistic freedom to expand at its best, our festival is open to professional productions as well as self-produced films.
During a weekend of celebrating the mockumentary genre, we want deconstruction, punk amusement, and childish gullibility to coexist.

This looks so exciting. We LOVE mockumentaries here at WOW. We’ve asked some of our staffers to name their favorites.
Fenton Bailey’s favorite: Propaganda (2012)
From consumerism to Columbus Day to celebrity culture, the fake North Korean propaganda film slices open contemporary Western culture for its rewriting of history and its imperialist and corporatist policies. Says Fenton: “Such a brilliant mockumentary, I didn’t realize it wasn’t real!”
Jake Thompson: Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
“Drop Dead Gorgeous features solid performances from some of my faves!” says Jake, “Ellen Barkin! Kirstie Alley! Allison Janney! Kiki Dunst! It can’t get any better!”
Michael Roha: Best in Show (2000):
The improvised mock about five entrants in a prestigious dog show. “My favorite line? When Jennifer Coolidge says “Talking and not talking. Um, we could not talk or talk forever, and still find things to not talk about” I mean, who doesn’t love it?”
Pete Johnson: Death of a President (2006)
“Super-controversial 2006 mockumentary which gave a very scary look at what might happen if George W. Bush had been assassinated while in office, specifically a crackdown on civil liberties by President Dick Cheney. We really dodged a bullet!”
Beth Andrus: A Mighty Wind (2003):
“Christopher Guest and his ensemble casts can do no wrong! ”
Francie Kochler: Waiting for Guffman (1996)
“Even though it pokes fun at small town America, it does in an endearing way. The characters are genius and almost relatable. Eugene Levy is brilliant.”
Nigel Andrew: Lake Mungo (2008)
Terrifying film about a 16-year-old who drowns and then begins to appear in ghostly visions to her grieving family. “Things get reeeeeally weird,” says Nigel.
Blake Jacobs: I’m Still Here (2010)
“Remember when Joaquin Phoenix lost his damn mind? Remember when he pissed off David Letterman? To find out it was all just for Casey Affleck’s mockumentary made it even better. And carpe diem, ok? He looked hot in it.”
Scott Dickson and Tom Wolf: This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Scott: “The characters are so endearing, you really get the sense that they have an interior world, and I like imagining what that is.”
Tom: “It’s just funny. Nothing better than making fun of rock stars.”
And mine: Zelig (1983)
It’s not politically correct to praise Woody Allen, I know, I get it, but Zelig was HUGELY influential to me as a teen. One of the first mockumentaries I’d ever seen, Zelig chronicals the life of “human chameleon” Leonard Zelig, who is able to take on the characteristics of anyone around him, and consequently ends up at every major event of the early 20th century and in all the newsreel footage. Zelig is one of Woody’s best and most beloved movies, blending his distinctive sensibilities with talking heads like Susan Sontag, Bruno Bettelheim, and Saul Bellow, among others.

Are you going to DragCon this weekend, but still searching for that perfect look that will leave them GAGGING IN THE AISLES? Or perhaps you’re the biggest Minecraft fan in the world, and want to live out your days as one of their pixilated characters? Well, then, have we got a transformation for you! Makeup artist Promise Tamang recently released a detailed tutorial on how to make up your face into a pixelated character inspired by Minecraft. It’s pretty genius.
This took me a good 2 and half hours to do but the result was surprisingly amazing. You just have to remember to use dark squares to outline the main features like yours eyes, cheekbones and face shapes etcs and use lighter white in places you would normally highlight like underneath your brows above cheekbones and and the tip of your nose. The lips were a lot of fun I added mini lighter squares in them
Check it out below!

41-year-old Amsterdam-based textile designer Aniela Hoitink has been growing gowns in petri dishes – and they’re surprising wearable and fashion-forward. Very Margiela, in fact!
She recently created a 100 percent biodegradable dress – good for the environment and your skin – in one week, using nothing but discs of mushroom root.
From Oddity Central:
She needed 350 discs to make a single dress, so she spent a week-and-a-half growing them in petri dishes before they were ready to be used. Because the dress requires no cutting or sewing, there is no leftover material that needs to be discarded. The material doesn’t require hemming either, so it can be cut to suit the wearer’s requirements of length or shape. And more discs can be added to create sleeves or length. The dress can be composted when it is no longer needed, so it doesn’t actually end up in landfills.
Combining technology and microbiology, Aniela used the fungus provided by a lab at Utrecht University in Holland, and spent time observing several soft-bodied organisms that grow by replicating themselves several times over. She then combined textile elements with mycelium – the vegetative part of a mushroom. Mycelium is fast-growing and non-toxic when dried, and also water-resistant and fire proof.
At first, drying made the fungus brittle and stiff, but Aniela figured out a way to keep it dry yet flexible. After a year-and-a-half’s efforts she finally managed to produce a durable, workable material that she calls ‘MycoTEX’.
“Mycelium has been used in the packaging industry before but never in the fashion industry,” she explained. “I needed thinner layers than they use for packaging. I grow it in a petri dish in a clean environment with no other bacteria and then overlap the thin layers to create a fabric. Each sheet is a little bit like a fluffy pancake when you take it out. With mycelium you have to dry it to stop it growing but that makes it brittle and stiff, which is totally unsuitable for textiles.”
“I developed a recipe that means after drying it still remains flexible,” she added. “Then I just layer the pieces and attach to each other. There’s no need for sewing and you can see the dress comes together three-dimensionally as you’re making it. And if there’s a hole, you can just put a new patch on to cover it, without affecting the way the fabric looks.”
“I want to inspire people to think differently about fashion,” said Aniela, who worked for different fashion brands for 12 years before starting her own company, NEFFA. “It’s about sustainability and people buying clothes in a good way. People might be frightened by the idea of wearing something made out of fungi but it doesn’t feel like a mushroom. Most people say it feels like paper. It’s comfortable and nice to wear.”
Fashion for the future! I would totally give this a whirl!

The Obama Administration will announce that the nation’s first monument to gay liberation, Stonewall National Park. It’s located in Greenwich Village, where it’s always been, the birthplace of the modern LGBT movement.
The designation will encompass the Stonewall Inn, Christopher Park, across the street from the bar, and parts of the surrounding neighborhood.
According to The Washington Post, the National Park Service will designate the area as historic in time for the city’s pride celebration, which commemorates June 28, 1969. On that the day corrupt cops raided Stonewall Inn only to be surprised by an intense rebellion by bar patrons and locals fed up with police harassment.
In the meantime, there’s another monument there! Lady Bunny! They’ve extended her show, Transjester at The Stonewall through the end of May (and beyond?!) I went on opening night and she made a point of paying homage to the joint and those who came before, so make a pilgrimage to one of the early gay settlers (Bunny) – if you want to laugh your ass off, that is.

After being sent a letter explaining that his anti-LGBT law targeting transgender citizens of North Carolina is illegal, Governor Pat McCrory is denouncing the Obama administration and the U.S. Department of Justice new claim. The DOJ told the governor that HB2 violates the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, and he has until Monday at 6 PM, to respond that he will ensure the illegal law is not enforced.
McCrory, speaking to business leaders last evening at 6:30 PM dismissed the Department of Justice’s three-page letter detailing why HB2 is illegal by claiming it is the,
“interpretation of just one agency in the Obama administration.”
He apparently also suggested the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not apply to private businesses, which is not true. The Governor also released a snippy statement on his official website, calling the DOJ statement that HB2 is a violation of federal law “a claim by the Obama administration,” suggesting he might choose to not recognize the authority of the Justice Department. He also added,
“The right and expectation of privacy in one of the most private areas of our personal lives is now in jeopardy. We will be reviewing to determine the next steps.”
On a happier note, ad agency McKinney, based in Durham, North Carolina, put HB2 where it belongs: on rolls of toilet paper fit for flushing. They mailed the rolls to various media outlets and put out a video to accompany it. Watch.

Did you hear? A high school football player is in BIG trouble after his prank-gone-wrong resulted in him being charged with with 69 counts of indecent exposure, (69!) a Class 1 misdemeanor, and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors, a Class 4 felony. Hunter Osborn, 19, of Mesa, is accused of exposing his penis in a football team photograph that was printed in his school’s yearbook.
A Playgirl spokesperson told Naughty Gossip,
“We’re trying to reach this kid to get him in Playgirl. We want to support him as this was a hilarious prank, and people are too tightly wound. Playgirl.com would like to have him pose naked and pay his legal bills.”
Nineteen-year-old Osborn now sits at home wearing an electronic monitoring device. Senior Zack Anthony and Sophomore Brooke Bodrero says students have been buzzing about the photo for months. The school had released the photo in the yearbook and football game programs before Osborn was charged. Osborne admitted to police he exposed himself on a dare. Anthony sad,
“When people told me about it I thought it was a big thing, but when I looked at it like you cant really tell, it’s kinda hard to see.”
Bodrero said,
“At first, it was kind of like a joke, but then once we found out the consequences he has to face for this, we all feel really bad for him, and we don’t think it’s very fair.”
For his part, Osborn admits to exposing himself and told police that he’s “disgusted by what he had done.”
He has a preliminary hearing set for May 20. What do you think about the prank? Seems harmless to me. What do you think him posing in Playgirl? Seems like that kinda help he doesn’t need, unless he wants to make a hard left into porn, not that there’s anything wrong with it. Tell us what you think on Facebook.

We live in wondrous times, no doubt about it. Your wildest dream has just become reality. Yes, chicken-flavored nail polish is now a THING.
In line with its spirit of innovation, KFC Hong Kong unveils their new ‘Finger Lickin’ Good Edible Nail Polish’ range, keeping the brand literally at their customers’ fingertips while savoring their delicious signature chicken.
This limited edition edible nail polish was created as a tribute to the world famous “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good” slogan.
“KFC’s signature flavors — Original Recipe and Hot & Spicy — have been carefully formulated from natural ingredients into edible nail polish and packaged in a stylish glass bottle and minimal box with over gloss details to appeal to young consumers’ love of food and fashion. Simply apply and dry like regular nail polish and then lick — again and again and again to taste why the world’s favourite chicken is Finger Lickin’ Good.”
Uproxx echoes the many questions I’m sure we all have: How long does the flavor last? Will the Hot & Spicy let us down? This can’t be healthy. Is this healthy? When will it make it to the US? Is flavored nail polish the next trend? Can we get behind that?
Adweek spoke with the agency Ogilvy & Mather, who worked directly on the nail polish with food technologists from McCormick. “The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavor, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish,” creative director John Koay said. “This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong.”
Right now the polish is more of a social media campaign than anything else, with Hong Kong consumers being encouraged to vote on which flavor they want to go into mass production.
