My latest obsession: TBS’s Search Party. While everybody was counting down their Gilmore Girls clock (trust me, I was too), I set aside five hours (because I’m awesome) to binge the entirety (there are ten thirty minute episodes) of the new who-dunnit series and I can’t get enough of it. Here’s the ten things I loved from the new series!
Check it out:
10) Jeffery Self

Self plays the on-and-off again boo, Marc, to Elliot – the narcissistic boyfriend played deliciously by John Early. Each time he falls for Elliot’s tricks again, we couldn’t help but want to take him away, cuddle, and spoon him with a new beau. We couldn’t be more proud of our friend of WOW!
9) The Artwork

In true Nancy Drew style, all the brilliant artwork is done by SlumberBean.
8) Rosie Perez

Perez plays Lorraine, a stranger that Dory (Alia Shawkat) meets in a moment of happenstance and she too, has seen Chantal. When things start to climax though, is Lorraine to be trusted or dusted?

You know, he’s that guy from Office Space. And he was totally Burger from SATC back in the day. There’s something endearingly perfect/disgusting about he and Dory’s love affair (sorry, spoiler alert!), and you kind of can’t blame her for hooking up with this sleuth-seeking daddy.
6) Brandon Michael Hall

Meredith Hagner described him as a “walking crush,” and that’s the most uncanny way to describe MBH. As Dory’s ex, Julian, the only thing you’ll disagree about his character arch, is that you’ll wish he had a bigger role and was in more of the show!

Living legend Christine Taylor is known for her comedy chops. Who could ever forget her iconic take on Marcia Brady in the Brady Bunch movies…

AND in Dodgeball with her “threw up in my mouth a little bit,” bit?!

As Gail, the UWS resident whom employs Dory to well, hang out with her?, is incredibly hilarious and you’ll kind of wish she was your boss.
4) Parker Posey

When the ethereal goddess Parker Posey shows up on screen, I squealed. I mean, who DOESN’T love her?! As the cool-as-a-cucumber art shop owner slash possible cult leader (?), you’re gonna die when you watch her in this because whatever Parker touches, turns to gold.
3) John Early

If you haven’t watched him in the Wet Hot American Summer reboot, you really should. It’s hard to introduce John Early, because he’s “literally the funniest guy on the planet.” If you read my interview with him (which you can brain cram here) you’ll fall in love with him too. He really is a stand out in this great new series.
2) Alia Shawkat

We LOVE Alia Shawkat so it was obvious we were ecstatic when we found out she was co-producing and leading this ensemble cast in Search Party. She’s as captivating to watch as Dory is to finding Chantal.

For me, the standout performer was newcomer Meredith Hagner. She was stylish, HILARIOUS, and vulnerable to boot. Check out this scene that managed to make me ugly cry and laugh at the same time:
