Casting News: Will Lady Gaga Play Donatella Versace in American Crime Story Season 3?

Of course, they SHOULD go with Maya Rudolph (see video below), but Gaga is a good choice, too.

During a panel at Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest over the weekend, Ryan Murphy hinted that fans might be right in speculating that Lady Gaga would be perfect for the role of Donatella Versace in the upcoming 3rd season of American Crime Story.

The season of the anthology series is set to revolve around the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace.

When the PopFest panel moderator suggested that Lady Gaga would be great for the role, Murphy gave a knowing grin and said, “Ya think?”

Murphy explained that he wanted to focus the 3rd season on Gianni’s murder because the serial killer who did it remained undetected by authorities until his own suicide.

“I was always very moved and freaked out by the Versace assassination, and I thought it was a really great story to do because it’s a manhunt season,” he said. “[Serial killer Andrew Cunanan] killed four people and then Versace, and was on the loose. We’re exploring the reasons of how he got away with being undetected.

“The tragedy of the Versace murder was that it should not have happened. He should have been caught by then.

“But he wasn’t caught because he was targeting gay people, and people didn’t care. That’s why Gianni Versace was killed, for the most part.”

Season two and three are filming simultaneously. Season two deals with Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
