First of all, did you guys know that Vice Media – which is responsible for Vice magazine, the hit HBO show, and the YouTube channel – is getting it’s own cable television network? The channel will be called Viceland and is a partnership with investor A&E. Frontiers magazine recently interviewed Ellen Page about her brand-new show Gaycation, one of the first new shows to come from the network, debuting on March 2.
Gaycation, is a travel show with out and proud actress Ellen Page and her BFF Ian Daniel as they cross the globe to, as she says in the trailer, “find out what it means to be lesbian, gay, bi, or trans all around the world.” That means both gay friendly and gay not-so-friendly. From Frontiers.com:
The concept of Gaycation is simple: to investigate and celebrate the current state of the queer experience, Page and her best friend Ian Daniel set off on a journey across the globe. The show’s first episode finds them in Japan, wandering the streets of Ni-chome, the city’s gay district, and hanging in a ‘drag bar’ complete with wardrobe rental, a safe space for Tokyo’s gender-nonconforming population. Later episodes pin the duo in (less-friendly for LGBTs) Brazil and Jamaica, with a layover in Iowa, where you may remember Page’s viral encounter with a GOP presidential candidate last August.
Sounds like my kind of show! I’m too broke for traveling, so for now I’ll have to live my life vicariously through Ellen Page and her BFF Ian. Read Frontiers full interview with Ellen Page, and don’t miss Gaycation March 2 on Viceland.
