This week, Dolce & Gabbana launched a collection of high-end luxury hijabs and abayas, targeting Muslim shoppers aiming for modesty. The collection features black and beige items in sheer georgette and satin weave charmeuse fabrics, with D&G signature lace detailing, as well sumptuous prints with daisies, lemons, and red roses.
“The new Dolce&Gabbana Abaya collection is a reverie amidst the desert dunes and skies of the Middle East: an enchanting visual story about the grace and beauty of the marvelous women of Arabia,” D&G wrote on their Facebook page.
And you can cry “cultural appropriation” all you want, but OMG – I would TOTALLY wear the crap out of ALL of them.
D&G operates 13 stores and boutiques in the United Arab Emirates and has multiple outposts across Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
D&G is one of the first major luxury labels to create a collection with nods to Middle Eastern culture and addressing the specific need for traditional pieces such as the abaya and the sheyla headscarf.
