The queen of walking out of the gym, Taylor Swift, dropped a New Year’s Treat on January 1st for her fifth single off the critically acclaimed 1989 album for “Out Of The Woods.”
Check it out and then we’ll discuss:
First of all:
And:
Here are the 7 things the OOTW video remind us of:
7) TWILIGHT
Like, duh.
To kick things off, this is an obvious first read of the video’s similarities to Twilight: Eclipse. Raised by wolves, Taylor Swift is coming back to wreck havoc (rip a necklace off in slow motion) in the dead of winter.
6) ENYA’S “WHITE IS IN THE WINTER TIME”
The queen of New Age, Enya‘s classic Christmas club banger HAD to of been a source of inspo to Kahn’s vision when putting together the tundra treatment into the OOTW video.
5) DONNA LEWIS’ “I LOVE YOU ALWAYS FOREVER”
Melodically, TSwift’s song sounds almost identical to this early 90’s catchy club banger put out by the queen of mom pants, Donna Lewis:
4) LION KING’S “CIRCLE OF LIFE”
Besides Lion King being the best Disney film of all time, it also provided the best soundtrack.
The background vocals and beats of both of these songs are so similar that Chamberland made a must-hear mashup that you can listen to here.
TBH, there’s a total overall Disney vibe to this video. It’s equal parts Hook:
And Pocahontas:
3) CELINE DION’S “MY HEART WILL GO ON“
This performance:
Even down to the dress and chiffon-ography.
2) BEY’S “SWEET DREAMS” / CRYSTAL GEYSER COMMERCIAL
I don’t know when or where this gem aired:
And as weird as it was stumbling upon it, I can’t not be absolutely obsessed with it.
Beyonce gyrates around a dance set with her water-forming sorcery in the same vain that Swift does with the vine in the woods.
1) SHAKIRA’S “WHENEVER, WHEREVER”
The queen of hips that don’t lie crawled through mud, blood, and earth to tell her lover how much they could “both make fun of distance.” Besides this being almost a carbon blueprint of Shakira’s video, when Taylor crawls through the wet dirt, it was giving me Whenever, Wherever realness:
