A Virginia news channel’s reporter and cameraman were killed this morning in a shooting that was captured during a live TV broadcast outside of Roanoke, Virginia. WDBJ7’s Chief Meteorologist Brent Watts tweeted after the shooting that reporter Allison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward were killed. WDBJ’s general manager appeared live on air to tell viewers,
“It’s my very very sad duty to report… that Alison and Adam died this morning.”
Police are searching for the man who fired the shots. WDBJ7 confirmed that the shooting “happened during a WDBJ7 live report” and said the station was still “trying to figure out what happened.” Parker was interviewing a woman about 50 miles southeast of Roanoke, when a half dozen shots broke out. Viewers heard screams and “Oh my God!” as Parker ran away, before the feed cut back to a visibly disturbed anchor in the newsroom, who said,
“OK not sure what happened there. We will of course let you know as soon as we find out what those sounds were.”
A screengrab from the video shows the apparent shooter aiming the gun towards the cameraman just before it drops to the ground and the feed cuts. Another showed the suspected shooter’s face and gun trained towards the fallen cameraman. This story is developing.
