Donald Trump‘s hair has been on fire (figuratively) since he made disparaging remarks against Mexicans at his Presidential run announcement. As a result of his racist comments, NBC removed Trump’s Miss USA from their programming following in the footsteps of Spanish-language broadcaster Univision, who said it would not air the Miss USA pageant.
Macy’s is also pulling all Donald Trump brand merchandise from its stores. The retailer has come under pressure to cut ties with the real estate magnate and businessman after he referred to immigrants from Mexico and other countries “killers and rapists.” In a statement Wednesday morning, Macy’s said the company “stands for diversity” and that it had no tolerance for discrimination;
“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”
And a TV company controlled by Mexican super-billionaire, Carlos Slim, just cancelled a project with Trump that is said to be worth millions. Ora TV, the production company co-founded by Slim and Larry King and funded by Slim’s America Movil, had been working with Trump for several months on the project. An Ora TV spokesperson said in a statement;
“Trump was totally out of line… working with someone so closed-minded was not going to work.”
He added that the comments were racist and hurtful. Slim is the world’s richest man with a net worth of around $71.1 billion. Trump is WAY down the list at number 405, worth an estimated $4 billion. Yes, it’s supremely ironic that Trump would get fired by a Mexican more powerful than he. Bullying NEVER pays –unless you’re a Republican…
Trump placed second in a national CNN poll released yesterday, with 12% of GOP primary voters saying they were most likely to support him in 2016, he is outranking every other candidate in the over-crowded GOP field, except for Jeb Bush, who got 19%.
What’s this all mean? In the long term, not much. In the immediate future, however, Trump’s candidacy is a BIG problem for Republicans. If he continues to surge in the polls, he will qualify for the first GOP primary debate, which Fox News is hosting next month. Trump’s crazy-town statements could also derail the whole debate forcing other candidates to respond. Yay! So, for a minute, America can savor the prospect of a Trump nomination and I have to say, I’m LOVING this. Keep talking, jackass. Just watch who runs screaming away from you next.
