Check Out the Amaaaazing Outfits Up for Bid at Sotheby’s First Ever Couture Auction

Gasp-worthy vintage pieces from designers like Christian Dior, Thierry Mugler, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent are going up for bid at Sotheby’s first ever haute couture collection, July 8 in Paris. Altogether, 150 outfits and accessories crafted between 1924 and the early 2000 – and originally worn by the likes of Jerry Hall, Elizabeth Taylor, and the Duchess of Windsor – will go on sale. This evening dress in point d’esprit tulle and covered with appliqué pink feathers, was crafted in 1965 for Francine Weisweiller, a very close friend of Balenciaga. It was loaned for the Cristobal Balenciaga retrospective at the Musée des Tissus in Lyon in 1986, and will sell for an estimated $8,800-$13,190.

This Balmain cocktail dress comes from Pierre Balmain’s winter 1953 collection, and is embroidered with chiffon roses by the Lesage Company. It will likely sell for $4950-$7150.

This three-piece Chanel suit from 1960 is the classic model that influenced design for decades. The model was ordered by women like Elizabeth Taylor and Queen Paola of Belgium, and is estimated to sell for $2200-$3300.

This Thierry Mugler outfit, featuring a molded leather bodice and chiffon skirt, was presented at a Winter 1979 show by model Jerry Hall. Sotheby’s did not provide a price estimate.

This Yamamoto cage corset in black jersey is one of the newest items up for auction. It was worn throughout the entire Winter 2006 show, and is estimated to sell for $2200-$3300.

Schiaparelli’s silk twill dress comes from the label’s summer 1938 Circus collection. A jacket from the same show is on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This Paco Rabanne mini-dress, made of metal and ostrich feathers, was designed for the singer Dani for her show at the Alcazar in 1970. It’s estimated to sell for $7700-$9900.
