Every year of late, Barneys taps some famous name to collaborate with for the holidays. In the past it’s been Lady Gaga, Disney and Jay-Z, and this year it’s filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his wife, costume designer and collaborator Catherine Martin for “Baz Dazzled Holiday“. (I saw the couple having dinner just last Saturday night and wondered what brought them to town?) Well, they had a fab window reveal outside Barneys on Thursday night with many assorted celebs, like Ms. Vogue herself, Anna Wintour and Wowlebrity designer Zaldy, who developed many of the costumes for the windows and the performers. Here’s my pick of some of their affordable goodies, plus some over-the-top gifts like Louboutin boots and a hand-painted teepee, all in a coodinated gold, black and white theme. Twenty-five percent of all proceeds will go to Room to Read, a charity that supports literacy and gender equality in education in developing countries. I need to make a special trip uptown to window shop this joint.
The on-the-street festivities included ice dancers, opera singers, stilt walkers and breakdancing elves.
